If you are residing in South-east region of Asia then you might want to bind yourself for some recommencement of suppressed hostilities between Cambodia and Vietnam. Last week, authorities in Vietnam arrested six persons in Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon) who were engaged in some online gambling system. The female gambling ringleader Lam Manh Nhi had been arrested on Wednesday and her five companions were busted on Thursday. According to the report of Tuoi Tre News, the authorities got aware of their activities as they noticed a huge number of IP addresses from Vietnam that were continuously accessing a gambling website which was in link with a Cambodian casino.
On further investigation, police discovered parabolic antennas installed across the south-western province of Tay Ninh acting as relay medium to link the Vietnamese clients and the Cambodian casino. Nhi had also planted antennas in north of Quang province to further convey the signals to Chinese punters. Nhi used to manage money withdrawals and deposits of gambling clients through her personal online casino account.
The chief reason for proliferation of gambling joints along Cambodian/Vietnamese border is lack of casinos in Vietnamese territory. According to an estimate, around 3600 Vietnamese enter Cambodia to visit casinos every day, however Cambodian prime minister consider this as a case of national security. Keeping in mind that the revenue is permanently and continuously leaving their country, the government of Vietnam is pondering over its present plans of preventing the citizens from accessing the Vietnamese casinos under development.
This will be really annoying if you have massive and gleaming complexes for entertainment but restricted to foreigners and tourists. A Vietnamese official from Finance Ministry that is presently circulating drafts of Vietnam’s casino legislation stated that it would be better to back the due rights of the locals to access Vietnamese casinos with proper policies and transparent mechanisms in place. The Tourism Development and Research deputy director, Pham Trung Luong said that authorities cannot just simply ban what is beyond their control, Vietnamese people should be given their rights and ban on gambling must be uplifted.
